CORNISH — A 25-year-old man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend with a butcher knife early Friday, and then held it to her throat and threatened to kill her. Then, police said, he attempted to force the woman to drive to the home of a man with whom he believed she’d had a relationship.

The woman sustained some injuries but was able to escape more serious harm. York County Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Jones, who was in the area backing up another deputy who was dealing with a separate case, arrived as the two were arguing.

Eric Borgeson-Amico was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon causing bodily injury and kidnapping.

Deputies were dispatched to 39 High St. around 2:45 a.m., said Chief Deputy Bill King. When Jones arrived, Borgeson-Amico was standing in the open, driver’s side doorway of a vehicle. His girlfriend was in the driver’s seat, crying, and showed marks of injury on her face, head and neck. King said the woman received medical attention.

Borgeson-Amico allegedly accused his girlfriend of infidelity. King said the verbal argument escalated into Borgeson-Amico pushing and banging the woman’s head against a wall. His mother, who lives at the home, called police.

“During the assault, Borgeson-Amico grabbed a butcher knife and thrust it at his girlfriend, who was able to evade the full impact,” King wrote in a prepared statement. “She did suffer a superficial knife wound to her chest. Borgeson-Amico then held the knife to her throat, threatening to kill her.

“He then forced his girlfriend into to their vehicle, insisting she drive him to the suspected paramour’s residence,” King said.

She refused, and then Jones arrived and took the man into custody.

“He did a heck of a good job. We’re very proud of him,” said King of Jones’ work.

He said had Borgeson-Amico succeeded in forcing his girlfriend into driving away, the end result could have been much different.

According to a Nov. 16, 2010 article in the Taunton Daily Gazette, Borgeson-Amico, who was 21 years old at the time, was charged in connection with stabbing a outside of a Bridgewater, Massachusetts bar. Police in the 2010 incident said the fight ensued after the two men argued over a woman. The victim’s injury in that case was said to be minor. Borgeson-Amico was charged with multiple counts of assault.

Borgeson-Amico is scheduled to make an initial court appearance Monday. He was being held under close observation Friday at York County Jail in Alfred. No bail had been set.
