Maine’s season for hunting coyotes at night is about to begin.

The coyote night hunt runs from Monday until Aug. 31, 2015. It is legal to hunt coyotes from a half-hour after sunset until a half-hour before sunrise during the night hunting season. Hunting coyotes on Sundays is not allowed as the hunt is closed from midnight Saturdays to 12:01 a.m. on Mondays.

There is also a daytime hunting season for coyotes which is year round. Neither season is subject to a bag limit.

State officials say there are at least 12,000 coyotes living throughout Maine.
