Through Dec. 11: The South Portland Christmas Toy Drive, an event sponsored by the South Portland Police Department, Evelyn’s Tavern, Port Harbor Marine and Main Roofing Inc., is accepting donations of gifts that will be distributed to needy area children. Bring unwrapped toys, boots or coats to a Toy Drive Party at Evelyn’s Tavern, 121 Sawyer St., on Saturday, Dec. 6 beginning at 6 p.m. or drop off anytime before Dec. 11 at Port Harbor Marine, 1 Spring Point Drive. Saturday, Dec. 13: The South Portland Public Library’s After Hours concert features Peter Mezoian and his outrageous banjo. The show begins at 7 p.m. at the library’s main location at 482 Broadway. The free event is expected to be an evening of energetic music unlike any banjo tunes you have heard before.

Saturday, Dec. 13: Christkindlsmarkt takes place 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, Route 1, Scarborough. A European village market. Raffle items, kids’ gift shop and wrap, bratwurst, frankfurters, vegetarian fare, hearty soup and spiced cider.

Monday, Dec. 15: Open enrollment ends for the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) for coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2015. The deadline to apply for, keep or change your 2015 coverage is Feb. 15, 2015. Sunday, Dec. 21: Blue Point Congregational Church UCC, located at 236 Pine Point Road in Scarborough, is holding a Longest Night Service of Healing and Hope at 4 p.m. The service is intended especially for those who are struggling during the holiday season due to loss and grief, broken relationships, financial insecurity and loneliness. Wednesday, Dec. 24: A Traditional Christmas Eve Service of Lessons, Carols and Candle Lighting will be held at 7 p.m. at Blue Point Congregational Church UCC, located at 236 Pine Point Road in Scarborough.

Thursday, Jan. 8: The public is invited to a free showing and discussion of the movie “The Genius of Marian” from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The event is a good opportunity to connect with people who are dealing with many forms of dementia. Find out how others are managing memory loss and cognitive impairment. This event is part of the ongoing Speakers Forums produced by MemoryWorks in association with Port Resources. Forums are held the first Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Port Resources in 280B Gannett Drive, South Portland, near the Maine Mall. Light refreshments are provided.
