Ottow assistant principal of the year
The Maine Principals’ Association has announced that Joshua Ottow, assistant principal at Yarmouth High School, has been named Maine’s Assistant Principal of the Year for 2015. He will be honored by the MPA at its annual awards banquet at its Spring Conference on April 30, 2015. He will also be recognized by the National Association of Secondary School Principals at a three-day program to be held in Washington, D.C., April 15-17, 2015.
In announcing Ottow’s selection, the MPA said he received the award based on his accomplishments as a collaborative educational leader, as a role model in the development of positive school culture, student-centered policies and programs, and as an advocate for assistant principals. Executive Director Richard Durost noted, “Josh Ottow is an outstanding example of the next generation of school leaders and the increased responsibilities we place on them. The leadership and support of Principal Ted Hall has been a significant factor in Mr. Otto’s growth and success.”
He has served as the assistant principal at Yarmouth since 2011 and prior to that was assistant principal of Mt. Ararat High School beginning in 2007 after teaching history at Mt. Ararat since 2003.
Auction event benefits community
The Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce Boast ‘n Toast Silent Auction will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10th, from 5-8 p.m., at the Muddy Rudder, Route 1.
The event features food, drinks, live music, awards and silent and live auctions with dozens of items. Procceds will benefit the chamber’s Scholarship Fund, Yarmouth Fuel Assistance Fund and Merrill Memorial Library. Tickets are $35. For more information, call 846-3984.
USM singers to perform
The University of Southern Maine Chamber Singers will present a concert of seasonal, sacred choral music Friday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m., at the at Sacred Heart Church, 256 Main St., Yarmouth. The event is sponsored by St. Jude’s Church in Freeport. Works by composers Tallis, Omiccioli, Lauridsen, Shafer and others will be performed. All proceeds will benefit Preble Street Teen Center and Florence House for homeless women. A free-will offering will be taken at the door. The chorus is directed by Dr. Robert Russell, professor of music.
Parking ban
The all-night, on-street parking ban is in effect through April 15. This is an effort to keep the streets clear for snow removal. According to the police department, all-night parking is defined as parking for more than one hour between midnight and 6 a.m. This applies to all public streets within the town.
