GOSHEN, Ind. — Hundreds of items from actor Burt Reynolds’ personal memorabilia collection that are going up for auction in Las Vegas spent months inside a former northern Indiana bar.
Goshen native Darren Julien had the memorabilia shipped in August to his hometown, where family members helped catalog and photograph the clothing, artwork, movie props and other items for the auction that starts Thursday.
Julien said his company, Julien’s Auctions, estimated the items being sold by the star of “Deliverance” and “Boogie Nights” to be worth between $2 million and $3 million.
“Burt’s somebody that I’ve known quite some time, and I’d been working with him on doing this auction for the past year,” he told The Elkhart Truth.
Julien’s sister, Dawn Woods, their father and several other family members and friends worked on arranging the more than 800 items, including a large art collection of paintings and sculptures, sports memorabilia, clothing, saddles, Reynolds’ red jacket from “Smokey and the Bandit,” and an antique watch that Sally Field gave Reynolds that is engraved with a marriage proposal.
Woods said she was most fond of Reynolds’ boot mirror, which is framed by the tops of several of his cowboy boots.
“He is a size 10 if anyone is interested in his boots,” she told The Goshen News.
The crew kept quiet about their work inside the former bar, which is next door to a pizzeria. Most of the auction items were shipped to Las Vegas last week, and Julien said he and his father often talked over breakfast about the secret they were keeping.
