Outlook: Merriconeag is a Nordic powerhouse. The school, which races in Class C, is small, but took first at last year’s States by enormous margins.

“I’m pleased to be coaching the team again this winter,” says John Tarling, who sees his seniors leading and his freshmen making “an immediate impact.” The majority of the season – from the conference meets to the Sassi Race – are all lead-up to the Championships, Tarling adds.
