
Wednesday’s the day.
That’s when the Goodwill store at Cook’s Corner will open its doors for business. The grand opening celebration is set to kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m.
The 14,500- square- foot store and donation center is located at 21 Gurnet Road at Cook’s Corner in Brunswick. It will feature a wide variety of donated goods, including clothing, jewelry, books, household items and furniture, as well as a limited selection of new items. The store, which will employ around 40 fulland part-time staff, also has a drive-up donation area for those wishing to contribute to the store’s offerings.
“ We are delighted to expand our retail presence in Brunswick,” said Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Northern New England, in a prepared statement. “ Our retail stores are vital in supporting Goodwill’s mission to help people achieve personal stability and community engagement through the dignity of work.”
The grand opening celebration will include door prizes Wednesday, as well as a weekend-long raffle.
Goodwill Industries of Northern New England has a 10- year goal of being instrumental in moving 10,000 households out of poverty in our territory of Maine, New Hampshire and northern Vermont. The organization not only creates training opportunities and jobs within Goodwill, but its Workforce Services helps local businesses build their own workforce. Goodwill Neurorehabilitation Services in Portland and Lewiston offers comprehensive brain injury services and treatment options for people with acquired brain injuries. At Goodwill Neurorehabilitation Services, comprehensive, community based therapies are provided to assist individuals with cognitive, emotional and physical needs — so lives can get back on track after a brain injury.
Goodwill Industries of Northern New England operates 23 residential homes across Maine for people with diverse challenges — acquired brain injury, intellectual disability or other barrier to independence that requires continuous support from Goodwill staff.
Its services are funded by revenue from retail and recycling operations, grants, fees and philanthropic gifts.
