BRUNSWICK — Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary members are in high gear now searching for greens and other natural materials to be gathered around Midcoast region homes, farms, fields, forests and shores, for the annual “Holiday Bazaar” at Mid Coast Hospital Thursday and Friday, Dec. 4 and 5, at the hospital, 123 Medical Center Drive. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday
Baskets of greens, decorated or plain wreaths, centerpieces and decorated country antiques, will be among the offerings this year, as well as partridge berry bowls, made by volunteers, except for the wreaths, which are purchased locally. All baskets will have water containers to keep greens fresh. Four choices of wreaths will be offered: Shell or cone wreaths for $30 each; with red bow, $12, and plain, $10. Wreaths may be ordered until Dec. 2 by calling the Gift Shop at (207) 373- 6018 and wreath pick-up is during bazaar hours. Wreaths also will be on sale at the bazaar.
Teams of volunteers are making the baskets of greens, decorating the wreaths and country antiques, and making the red bows.
A wide variety of homebaked goods, including coffee cakes, cakes, pies, cinnamon rolls, scones, quick and yeast breads, fudge and plates of assorted cookies, will be packaged in cello bags and tied with red ribbons for easy gift-giving at this time of the year. Assorted cookie plates are very popular and hundreds are sold for quick treats.
There will also be Christmas and antique treasures, and soaps and lotions from Botanical Soaps of Maine, made in Brunswick. In the Café, open from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., lobster rolls will be served at lunch on Thursday and fish chowder on Friday.
Proceeds of the bazaar benefit Auxiliary projects, including the $120,000 pledge for the upgraded Maternity infant security system, health career scholarships, the healing garden and the Teddy bear club.
