ALFRED (AP) — Officials say a Biddeford man charged with starting a fire that killed two people has been hospitalized after jumping off a stairway railing in jail.
The York County Sherriff ’s Office said that 18-year-old Dylan-Lee Collins was out of his cell at the York County Jail Thursday when he walked up the stairs and jumped off the second-tier landing. Officials say he fell nearly 11 feet before striking the ground.
Collins is being held at the critical care unit of Maine Medical Center. The sheriff ’s office says his condition doesn’t appear to be life threatening and that he was sitting up on his own after the incident.
Collins is being held on arson and murder charges in connection with the September fire that killed 21-year-old James Ford and 23-year-old Michael Moore.
