Democratic Rep. Diane M. Russell, a public relations and social media manager, retained her seat representing District 39 in the Maine House.

Russell won with 72.4 percent of the vote. Self-employed Marie Besanko, 25, who ran as a Green Independent, garnered 27.6 percent.

The district includes the islands of Portland and part of the city’s downtown.
