I am writing to oppose Mr. William Somers’ candidacy for Scarborough Town Council. He has been a very divisive figure in Scarborough’s efforts to resolve its off-leash dog issue this past year.

The compromise adopted by Scarborough included adding a team of volunteer beach monitors to educate the public about the new rules. The program has been widely acclaimed as a success.

Even though Mr. Somers was on the Canine Education Committee, he sought to undermine the education mission of the beach volunteer program and the new ordinance at committee meetings, before the council and now while campaigning. He was disrespectful when speaking to the Town Council and even stormed out of the council meeting as the compromise was adopted. Mr. Somers is not interested in compromise and he definitely is not interested in making our beaches a place for all to enjoy. He does not deserve your support in this election.
