I would like to offer a perspective about the future of our Freeport public schools that I hope rings true with you as you consider whether to vote for withdrawal from RSU 5 on Nov. 4.

It is the confidence that I have in the capability of the people of Freeport to provide positive leadership in collaboration with our school board members, school administrators, teachers, parents and students to provide an excellent school system for our Freeport students, as well as students from Pownal and Durham .

When one takes a look around Freeport, it is evident that this is a very dynamic town. The business and banking community is attracting bright young people. The economy of our town is growing and the professional and volunteer leadership is fully engaged in improving the quality of life for everyone.

I cite the following organizations to name a few: Freeport Community Services, Freeport Community Library, Wolf’s Neck Farm, Freeport Historical Society, Freeport Conservation Trust, Freeport Rotary and other community organizations that are strong because of the dedication of good volunteers and positive leadership.

We also have a Town Council that listens and is very careful to develop public policy that is effective and financially responsible on behalf of our residents.

In summary, I see strength across the board in Freeport and I have every confidence that if we vote to withdraw from the current RSU structure, Freeport will do an excellent job of moving ahead with positive energy and results that will build an excellent school system that is attractive and successful in educating all the students who attend our schools in the future.
