I’m voting for Mike Michaud for Governor because, based on my experience over many years, I have seen first-hand what he can accomplish.
I retired following a long career as an environmental lawyer at the Attorney General’s Office. In my job, I worked on a non-partisan basis with Republican, Democrat and Independent administrations and legislators. I dealt with Mike while he was in the Legislature and in Congress concerning many environmental issues. I always found him to be thoughtful, insightful and level-headed even under intense pressure. His fairmindedness and calm demeanor made him an effective leader among legislators from both sides of the aisle. He demonstrated a commitment to getting things done in the public interest.
To those considering voting for Eliot Cutler, I would say that, while he has some good ideas, there is no reasonable prospect that he can win this November. Right now, what Maine needs more than anything is to end the poisonous atmosphere in Augusta, which has been the signature of Governor LePage. Mike Michaud will restore sanity to Augusta, get things done, and he can win.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
