PITTSBURGH — Tyler Seguin scored a power-play goal with 2.9 seconds remaining to give the Dallas Stars a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night.
Seguin’s goal capped a furious comeback as Dallas scored twice in the final 2:57 to win its second straight and snap a six-game losing streak in Pittsburgh. Jamie Benn and Antoine Roussel also scored for the Stars, who won in Pittsburgh for the first time since Dec. 23, 2000.
Sidney Crosby had his fourth goal of the season and Chris Kunitz also scored – both on power plays in the first 10 minutes of the game – for the Penguins.
Penguins forward Pascal Dupuis left the ice on a stretcher in the second period. He was cross-checked in front of the net by Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski and hit in the neck or upper-back by Kris Letang’s shot while he was down.
CAPITALS 6, DEVILS 2: Alex Ovechkin scored in his third straight game, Braden Holtby made 26 saves and Washington won at home, handing New Jersey its first loss.
Marcus Johansson scored the go-ahead goal early in the second period for the Capitals. Chris Brown, Nicklas Backstrom, Joel Ward and Andre Burakovsky also scored for Washington, and Troy Brouwer, Mike Green and Matt Niskanen each had two assists.
Rookie defenseman Damon Severson scored twice for the Devils.
ISLANDERS 4, SHARKS 3: John Tavares scored the decisive goal of the shootout and the host Islanders remained unbeaten.
San Jose’s Logan Couture and New York’s Kyle Okposo traded goals earlier in the shootout before Tavares beat Alex Stalock in the fifth round.
San Jose’s Tomas Hertl tied the tense game at 11:16 of the third after goals by Okposo and Josh Bailey earlier in the period put the Islanders ahead 3-2.
RANGERS 2, HURRICANES 1: Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 shots and then all three attempts in a shootout, and Rick Nash scored the only goal in the tiebreaker to lift New York at home.
Derick Brassard scored his third goal in his last three games to help New York snap a three-game skid.
Chris Terry scored for the Hurricanes.
SENATORS 5, AVALANCHE 3: Clarke MacArthur had the go-ahead score during a three-goal third period that pushed Ottawa past Colorado.
Bobby Ryan, Zack Smith and David Legwand also scored to help the Senators win their home opener. Craig Anderson stopped 31 shots and Chris Neil had an empty-net goal with 1:22 to go.
NOTES
AVALANCHE: The team placed goaltender Semyon Varlamov on injured reserve with a groin ailment.
The move is retroactive to Tuesday, when the Russian goalie possibly tweaked his groin in a 3-2 overtime loss in Toronto.
DUCKS: Left wing Patrick Maroon will be out for four weeks with a sprained ligament in his left knee.
