Soon after arriving in Scarborough in 1989 to work at the Scarborough Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO), there was a knock on my door and in walked someone I never met by the name of Roger Beeley. Roger didn’t have any sort of business venture in town, agenda or ulterior motive, but simply wanted to know what SEDCO would be doing for Scarborough and what could he do to help. It quickly became evident that Roger was an individual who wanted the best for his community and its residents, young and old alike.
Maintaining Scarborough’s enviable quality of life while ensuring a level of economic prosperity became Roger’s goal, which is evident by his unstinting willingness to work on numerous boards and committees. Happily the Town Council appointed Roger to the SEDCO Board, and as president and executive director I relied on Roger for advice and guidance as did the other board members.
I am very pleased that Roger has decided to run for the Scarborough Town Council as I feel very few people have actively participated as much in assuring the health and vitality of the community. Unfortunately, I cannot vote for him as I do not live in Scarborough, but after spending 24 years working in the community, I have great respect and admiration for the town and want it to thrive. I believe that Roger will bring energy, experience, expertise and his willingness to listen to all points of view when making decisions on the council that will ultimately affect the community. I encourage all Scarborough residents to vote for Roger Beeley for Town Council.
