Three suspects face multiple charges after a lengthy standoff on Oct. 12 at 68 Hurlin Smith Road in Buxton, where police seized several guns.
Several Buxton police assisted the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency in the incident, which began with an attempt to search for a stolen laptop and a .22 caliber handgun. A young child was in the house.
But occupants failed to answer the door. Buxton Police Chief Michael Grovo said on Tuesday the incident began mid-afternoon, and hours later, three suspects exited with the child, surrendering without a shot fired at about 7:30 p.m.
The three men were detained and then arrested following a search.
Buxton police arrested Dale Pinkham Sr, 54; Robert Pinkham, 19; and Raymond Pinkham, 21, according to a report by Chief Deputy Naldo Gagnon of Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Dale Pinkham Sr., 54, was charged with violations of condition of release, endangering the welfare of a child and creating a police standoff. Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office expected to additionally charge Pinkham Sr. with burglary and theft.
Dale Pinkham was taken to York County Jail, where he was posted $5,000 cash bail and was released, according to the report by Gagnon.
Robert Pinkham was charged with possession of a stolen firearm. Robert Pinkham will also be charged by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office with burglary, theft and criminal mischief, Gagnon reported.

Raymond Pinkham was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and creating a police standoff, according Gagnon’s report. Gagnon said Raymond Pinkham will also be charged by Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office with burglary, theft and criminal mischief.
Raymond Pinkham was taken to the Buxton Police Department, where he paid $500 cash bail and was released.
In executing a high-risk search warrant, police seized the laptop and several guns.
Buxton officers Mike Nourse, James Bradbury and Jason Joiner, in addition to Grovo, responded to the scene. Grovo said other units included the Cumberland County SWAT team, Scarborough’s command van and sheriff’s van along with a sergeant from York County Sheriff’s Department.
It’s not the first police incident at the Hurlin Smith Road property. In December, police seized a cache of guns, cash and drugs at the property. Also in that raid, police arrested Dale Pinkham Sr. and Dale Pinkham Jr. on warrants stemming from an earlier incident. Police had alleged Pinkham Sr. assaulted a man and Pinkham Jr. discharged a firearm in to the ground near the same man.
Also in the December raid, police saud that Raymond Pinkham had “possession of a concealed handgun that was reportedly stolen in Biddeford.”
In this week’s raid, Grovo said, police were at the scene until nearly midnight. Grovo said the Hurlin Smith Road address has an 8-foot fence around the property.
“They made it look like a fortress,” Grovo said.
