SOUTH PORTLAND – South Portland police have arrested three people from out of state at a local hotel and charged them with robbery and criminal restraint.

According to a press release issued by the police department, at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, a 30-year-old male reported being physically assaulted, robbed and prevented from leaving the hotel room after responding to an ad on Backpage.com to meet a transgender female for a massage.

The victim was able to ultimately leave the room, and notify hotel staff, who then called the police, the press release stated. Those arrested were Lauryn Ebanks, 28, from Massachusetts, Brandon Jamieson, 28, from California, and Tiffany Ruiz, 24, of New York.

In addition to the robbery and criminal restraint charges, Ebanks is also facing a misdemeanor charge of failing to give correct name and address. Police said they also found a small quantity of marijuana in the room.
