Library’s ‘Joy of Pen Writing’ competition entries sought
Topsham Public Library is accepting entries for its Joy of the Pen Writing Competition, open to year-round Maine residents for unpublished works only.
Entries will be accepted in fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction genres and this year includes a teen category for writers age 11 to 18.
Application forms are available at the library, 25 Foreside Road, by emailing emma@topshamlibrary.org or on the website at topshamlibrary.org.
The deadline for submitting applications is by 8 p.m. Oct. 11. For more details, call 725-1727.
BIDDEFORD
Savings bank gives $3,500 to Community Bicycle Center
Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution recently donated $3,500 to benefit building renovations at the city’s Community Bicycle Center.
Incorporated in 2005, the center provides growth opportunities for youth by learning how to recondition bicycles, going on local bike riding adventures, participating in community service projects and a welding and metal fabrication program.
Through the support of community members, business, volunteers and foundations the center recently purchased and renovated its new home at 45 Granite St.
This new space, abutting Clifford Park, will allow the center to more effectively engage kids in its youth development programs.
NORWAY
Videos accepted for contest on smart money managing
Norway Savings Bank is accepting entries for the national video contest “Lights, Camera, Save!” being offered in partnership with the American Bankers Association to educate youth about the importance of becoming smart money managers.
The contest invites teens 13 to 18 to produce a video that educates their peers about the value of saving and using money wisely. All videos created must be 90 seconds or less in duration and focus on saving and using money responsibly or saving to pay for college.
The creator of the winning work will receive a $250 scholarship and their video will advance to the national level competition for a chance to win a $5,000 prize.
Deadline for submissions is Dec. 1. Entry forms and contest details are available online at www.norwaysavingsbank.com.
