KENNEBUNK (AP) — Police say a ball python was discovered in the trunk of a rental car in Kennebunk, Maine.
Officers responded Wednesday night after two women who drove the rental car from Boston discovered the snake while retrieving their luggage from the trunk.
The snake was turned over to the Maine Warden Service on Thursday and was being transported to the Center for Wildlife in York.
Ball pythons generally grow to 3 to 5 feet long and aren’t considered dangerous.
But the women were unnerved. Kennebunk Deputy Police Chief Dan Jones told the Portland Press Herald that the women wanted a new rental car, even after the snake was removed.
