BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College used a three-goal burst in a 20-minute span of the second half to put away the University of New England and remain undefeated in women’s soccer with a 4-1 victory Wednesday.

Amanda Kinneston scored a first-half goal and added an assist, while Abby Einwag, Jamie Hofstetter and Abby Hammerl scored in the second-half rally for the Polar Bears (6-0).

Tori Field had a late goal for the Nor’easters (5-2).

Rachel Stout and Bridget McCarthy combined for three saves for Bowdoin.

UNE’s Brielle Robinson and Emily Richard split up eight saves.

COLBY 3, USM 0: Maddie Tight had a goal and two assists to spark the Mules (2-3-1) in a shutout of the Huskies (2-6-1) at Gorham.

Tight started the scoring in the 27th minute with an assist from Cami Notaro. She then set up Notaro’s header in the 65th minute, and Amanda Findlay’s goal in the 68th.

Emily Brook made two saves for Colby, which had a 27-5 advantage in shots.

Marissa Temple had 12 saves for Southern Maine.

BATES 4, MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY 0: Julia Rosen and Dakota Donovan had a goal and an assist apiece, and the Bobcats (5-2) easily handled the Mariners (2-5) at Lewiston.

Rosen and Leah Humes staked Bates to a 2-0 halftime lead. Donovan opened the second half with a goal in the 46th minute, and Ana Urbina finished the scoring in the 75th minute.

Sarah McCarthy picked up her first win of the season, stopping four shots. Kelsie Hilton made 11 saves for Maine Maritime.

FIELD HOCKEY

BATES 5, THOMAS 0: Shannon Beaton scored three unassisted goals in a 10-minute span of the first half to pace the Bobcats (2-4) in a shutout of the Terriers (3-7) at Waterville.

Beaton started the scoring at the 5:48 mark, then struck again at 13:38 and 15:17.

Sydney Beres and Claire Markonic added second-half goals.

COLBY 3, HUSSON 1: Erin Maguire assisted on all three goals as the Mules (4-3) downed the Eagles (2-5) at Waterville.

After a scoreless first half, Misha Strage finally scored for Colby 17:15 into the second off a cross from Maguire. Meredith Keenan found the net less then four minutes later, redirecting a pass from Maguire into the right corner.

The Eagles struck back after a penalty corner with Taylor Lovley scoring out of a scrum.

Caitlin Guiney provided insurance for the Mules, deflecting a blast from Maguire.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

STANFORD: Coach Johnny Dawkins was rewarded for his impressive NCAA tournament run last season and overall strides with a contract extension.

The number of years on his new deal wasn’t announced.

Dawkins, who turns 51 on Sunday and begins his seventh season, led the Cardinal to a 23-13 record and trip to NCAA South Regional semifinals before losing to Dayton.
