Two Yarmouth residents were displaced Thursday night by a fire that started in the kitchen of their second-floor apartment and destroyed their unit.

Yarmouth Fire Chief Mike Robitaille said the fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. in the 12-unit apartment building at 42 Bayview Ave.

Everyone escaped without injury but the apartment where the fire started suffered heavy heat, water and smoke damage. The American Red Cross was called to find temporary housing for the residents.

Robitaille said the fire is not suspicious.
