Senior meals to begin

The town of Gorham’s lunch program for seniors will begin at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Saint Anne’s Church, 299 Main St. The suggested donation for the meal is $4 per person.

Saint Anne’s recently dedicated the kitchen in honor of Louise Laliberty, who died on June 21. For more than 20 years, Laliberty prepared menus and meals for seniors in the Gorham area at the meal site.

“The kitchen has been renamed Louise’s Kitchen in her memory,” said Gail Platts, administrative assistant at the Gorham Recreation Department. For more information, contact Saint Anne’s Church at 839-4857.

Bicknell to speak

Deborah Bicknell will speak about the Seeds of Peace and YES program when the Gorham Woman’s Club meets at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, in the First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church St.

Light refreshments will be served at 12:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Triad to meet

Emily Sherwood will speak at the Gorham/Westbrook Triad meeting at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, at 22 Foster St. in Westbrook.

The topic for Sherwood, who received a kidney and liver transplant in 2009, is organ donations.

Church program on human trafficking

An ongoing series of programs, “Potluck With a Purpose,” about human trafficking continues at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, at South Gorham Baptist Church, 53 County Road, Gorham.

The guest speaker is Bob Atherton, and his topic is “100 Ways We Can Help to Make a Difference.”

A potluck meal will be served, and those attending are welcome to take a dish to share.

Mini Maker Faire set

The Greater Portland Mini Maker Faire will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, in Shaw Gym, 75 South St. Gorham Arts Alliance, Westbrook-Gorham Regional Chamber, and Baxter Memorial Library are sponsoring the event with support of the Portland Regional Chamber.

“The Greater Portland Mini Maker Faire is a family friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness,” Amy Valentine, president of the arts alliance, said in a statement.

U.S. taxpayer debt

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service reported on Sept. 5 that the U.S. public debt was $17,756,856,045,819.45.
