A Connecticut couple were killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday morning on Route 27 in Boothbay.

Police said Donald Hudson, 85, and his wife, Doreen Hudson, 67, of Madison were killed in the crash, The Associated Press reported.

Police said the crash, which occurred at 10:30 a.m. about a half-mile south of the River Road intersection, involved a GMC Envoy sport utility vehicle that was traveling north at a high rate of speed when Donald Hudson lost control.

The SUV left the right side of the road and went into a ditch before striking an embankment. It flipped in the air and struck a utility pole and several trees before coming to rest on its roof.

The Hudsons were wearing seat belts.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, which shut down Route 27 for three hours.
