FALMOUTH — Jake Grade scored in the first half and Nick Sanzari in the second to lift Falmouth to a 2-0 victory against Gray-New Gloucester in a Western Maine Conference schoolboy soccer opener Friday.

Friday was the opening day for high school soccer in southern Maine.

Grade came out of a scramble with the ball, turned and fired a shot into the lower right corner as Falmouth took a 1-0 lead after 30 minutes.

Sanzari converted Josh Spiegal’s assist early in the second half.

Jesse Melchiskey stopped the two shots he faced for Falmouth.

John Villanueva made six saves for the Patriots.

GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 1, RANGELEY 0: Matt Hammond scored from James Rudolph with 11:17 remaining for the Lions at Salem.

Mason Jones had five saves for Greater Portland Christian; Zachery Trafton made three for Rangeley.

GREELY 7, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: Ben Leverett opened the game with a pair of goals and Ben Ingraham added a third as the Rangers opened a 3-0 halftime lead at Cumberland.

Nick Pronovost added a goal and an assist in the second half. Luis Villa, who assisted on Leverett’s first goal, also had a second-half goal, as did Paul Bischoff and Luc Dionne.

PINE TREE ACADEMY 8, A.R. GOULD 2: Chris Wilday and Javal Stewart scored two goals each for the Breakers at South Portland.

Pine Tree Academy had six goal scorers. Mouhamed Roone and Keegan Gaouette scored, and Dariyn Wolfe had 20 saves for the Bears.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 1, OCEANSIDE 1: Kaleb Robinson scored late in the first half for Oceanside before Micah Williamson countered with 8:20 remaining in regulation at Waldoboro.

Coby Dorr had four saves for Oceanside and Noah Beck three for Medomak.

SCARBOROUGH 4, SOUTH PORTLAND 1: The Red Storm scored three first-half goals and won at South Portland.

Sam Ware, Matt Blaisdell, Jake Kacer and Garrett King scored for Scarborough, Matt Suja answered for South Portland.

Riley Hasson made 15 saves for the Red Riots.

MARANACOOK 6, GARDINER 3: Hayden Elwell scored three goals to lead the Black Bears at Gardiner.

Kent Moehler, Kody Solmitz and Ryan Roy also scored for Maranacook. Jake Folsom, Kaleb Marston and Josh Caldwell answered for Gardiner.
