A Winthrop man was arrested Wednesday and charged with possessing child pornography.
The Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit charged 20-year-old Jon A. Hall with possessing sexually explicit material of someone under the age of 12, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Hall was arrested at his home at 56 Route 133 in Winthrop with the assistance of Winthrop police and taken to Kennebec County Jail in Augusta.
The computer crimes unit began investigating Hall in July after receiving a complaint from the Newton, New Hampshire, police department that Hall was having sexually explicit conversations with a 12-year-old boy on a social media website.
Hall’s computer was seized on July 29 and after it was analyzed an arrest warrant was issued for him.
He was being held Wednesday on $1,500 bail.
