Cross Country

Coaches: Jeff Riddle (head), Emily Bland (asst.)

Last year’s record: Boys – 13-1 regular season, fourth at Regionals, sixth at States; girls – 13-2 regular season, seventh at Regionals, eighth at States

Key athletes: John Bland (Captain), Ben Breton, Jeremy Bennett, Steven Lailer, Reese Preston, Julia Rand (Captain), Joelle Bockus, Ali Wintle, Amanda Turner, McKenzie Pepin, Sierra Yost, Eliza Bennett

Outlook: Returning to States is Riddle’s ultimate goal for his squad; to that end, he hopes to help each athlete improve each week. The Eagles look to remain competitive, with every runner setting personal bests while contributing to their team. “We’ll be counting on all our athletes this season to progress and represent us in the Second 7 and Regional meets.”

Coach: Adam Manzo

Last year’s record: 4-6

Key players: Eli Williams (sr., Captain), Alex Spiller (jr.), Bryce Rolfe (jr.)

Key matches: Greely, Thornton, Gorham

Outlook: Windham posted a strong 2013, finished fourth in their division, and return 10 players this year. Williams and Spiller lead the team; both were second-team all-star selections last season. “We play in arguably the toughest division in the state,” Manzo says, “so we are optimistic that with all the work our team has done over the summer, we have a strong chance to qualify for the Team State Championship in October.”

Coach: Deb Lebel (fourth year)

Last year’s record: 17-1, Class A State Champions

Key players: Alana Dube (sr.), Hannah Haskell (sr.), Melissa Morton (sr.), Elizabeth Mycoch (sr.), Jordan Sargent (sr.), Jenna Soucy (sr.), Cassie Symonds (sr.), Shannon Valente (sr.)

Coach: Chris Cloutier (first year)

Last year’s record: 5-10

Key players: Bailey Card (sr., Captain); Crystal Frappier (sr., Captain); Brianne Fullarton (sr., Captain); Melanie Aldrich (jr.), Jamie Jannarone (so.)

Key matches: Falmouth, Biddeford

Outlook: Cloutier, President of the Maine State Volleyball Association, brings plenty of experience to the Windham fold. While many coaches would consider the team’s relative youth (the Lady Eagles sport just five seniors) a liability, Cloutier is excited to build for the future.
