Boys Cross Country
Coach: Jason Tanguay
Last year’s record: 11-2
Key athletes: Ben Foster (sr.), Drew York (sr.), Matt Esposito (sr.), Mitch Rossignol (sr.), Jesse Southard (jr.), Cam Tracy (jr.), Spencer Linscott (jr.), Sean Pratt (jr.), Ben Bradshaw (jr.), Collin Jones (jr.)
Key meets: Festival of Champions, Western Maine Regionals
Outlook: The Rams lost two of their top five seniors to graduation in June. “They’ll be hard to replace,” Tanguay says, “but we had many boys running this summer. I’m looking for these boys to fill those spots.” Tanguay also sees a tough regular season standing between his squad and regionals, “but I believe this team can put in the hard work necessary to qualify for the state meet.”
Girls Cross Country
Coach: John Caterina (second year)
Last year: 14th in Class A West; missed States
Key athletes: Kristen Benson (sr.), Ashley Woodbury (sr.), Meghan Hanley (sr.), Diana Albanese (jr.), Maddie Dewitt (jr.), Sarah Flanders (jr.), Bridget Rossignol (fr.), Anna Slager (fr.)
Outlook: After a rough 2013, Caterina is optimistic about his squad’s chances in 2014, calling the Lady Rams “a small but talented group.” Caterina hopes to add a few more names to his roster, and his fingers are crossed for a healthy season. If those pieces fall into place for the team, he expects them to vie for a top slot in A West, saying they “could be the biggest surprise in the SMAA this year.”
Field Hockey
Coach: Becky Manson-Rioux
Last year’s record: 8-7-1
Key players: Charlotte Smith (sr., Captain, F); Megan Baker (sr., Captain, G); Andrea Stemm (sr., M)
Key games: Westbrook, Biddeford, Thornton
Outlook: The Lady Rams have a seven-woman-strong returning contingent this year, and so look to build on last year’s success, earning another playoff berth and hopefully penetrating closer to everyone’s ultimate goal.
Football
Coach: Andrew Hager (first year)
Last year’s record: 0-8
Key players: Zach Mills, Stephen Burns, Trevor Nelson, Billy Ruby, AJ McKay, Brenden Mercier, Gunder Sandeno
Key games: Falmouth, Hampden, Greely
Outlook: Hager and the Rams are starting from somewhere near scratch, this year. “We’re a young team with a core group of dedicated athletes looking to establish an identity and rebuild a football program from the ground up,” he says.
Golf
Coach: Rick Altham
Last year’s record: 8-2
Key players: Kenny Tuttle, John Ennis, Tim O’Neill, Max Johnson
Key matches: Greely, Thornton, Windham
Outlook: Altham likes the lineup of his team this year: “A good mix of upper- and lower-classmen.” His four returning seniors invested considerable effort in their games in the off-season, he says, and “understand that hard work and leadership are the keys to being competitive.”
Boys Soccer
Coach: Tim King (15th year)
Last season: 12-4-1, fell in A West Semis
Key players: Nate Roberts (sr.), Cole Houghton (sr.), Matt Hooker (sr.), Cody Elliott (jr.), Jackson Fotter (so.), Tyler Richman (so.)
Key games: At Scarborough, at Deering, at Noble, Portland

Key players: Emily Lewis, Kate Hopkins, Kiana Plumer, Renae Staples, Cady Houghton, Lizzie Sullivan, Narissa Libby, Emma Smith, Emily Esposito
Key games: Windham, Thornton, Scarborough, Deering, Marshwood
Outlook: “We’re young and athletic and a work in progress,” Zarilli says, capturing some of her squad’s assets and liabilities in a single sentence. The team inspires confidence in her: “We should be competitive in every game.”
Volleyball
Coach: Nicole Rizzo
Last year’s record: 5-9
Key players: Cassidy Landry, Diana Kolb, Mackenzie Bowers, Maddie Bennett
Key matches: Scarborough, Greely, Falmouth
Outlook: Rizzo and her girls are both positive and hopeful this year. “We feel like we have a lot to prove, and we are ready to show everyone the hard work we have put into the season already,” Rizzo says.
