Girls Cross Country
Coach: Chris Strout
Last year’s record: Class A State Champions
Key athletes: Kyuanna Libby, Kialeigh Marston, Nina Truslow
Outlook: Graduation 2014 took a toll on the Lady Scots. Accordingly, “This year we’re focusing on developing some younger runners to round out our varsity squad,” says Strout. “We’ll be counting on our top veterans, Kyaunna, Kialeigh and Nina to lead us back to the State meet.”
Field Hockey
Coach: Caterina Riitano
Last year’s record: 5-6-3
Key players: Ashlyn Wintle (G), Lexi Lambert (F), Rose Woodruff (D)
Key games: Riitano doesn’t see any game as more important than any other, merely hopes to keep the score close in matches with bigger competitors.
Outlook: “We have a very young team,” Riitano says, “But with young players comes large room to improve and grow. The coaches and I are looking forward to this season!”
Football
Coach: Kevin Cooper
Last year’s record: 10-1, Class A State Champions
Key players: Zach Dubiel (QB/DB), Matt Smith (RB/LB), Ben Malloy (WR/DB), Luke Winslow (OL/DL), Antonio Bruni (WR/DB), Nikk Pierce (OL/LB), Zach Reynolds (OL/DL), Dylan Ricci (WR/DB), Keegan Meyer (OL/LB), Dalton Sanborn (TE/LB), Dillon Reynolds (WR/DB), Wiley Hollen (OL/DL), Parker Gammon (OL/LB), Nick Dubay (WR/DB), Mason White (OL/LB)
Key games: South Portland, Scarborough, Thornton
Outlook: Cooper looks for another big season from his boys, despite the loss of some key players to graduation. “Like always, we expect to compete for a Class A State Championship,” he says simply.
Golf
Coach: Brandon Poulin
Last year’s record: 1-9
Key players: Cam Robinson, Justin Miles, Derek Axelsen, Kyle Whitman
Key matches: Windham, Westbrook
Outlook: Bonny Eagle’s goal is straightforward: to improve on last year’s record. Poulin is optimistic, saying “the team has worked hard in the off-season, and may surprise some teams and be competitive in our division.”
Boys Soccer
Coach: Lawrence Robertson
Last year’s record: 5-7-2
Key players: Zack Moody, Ryan Moody, Denzel Crockett, Zack Gyrskwicz, Jeff Martin
Key games: Thornton, Westbrook, South Portland
Outlook: “Last year, we made it into the first round of the playoffs in quite some time,” Robertson says. “My expectation is that the boys will want similar, and better, success this coming season.”
Girls Soccer
Coach: Ed Taylor
Last year’s record: 0-16
Key players: Kelsey Parkin, Carly Beagle, Lizzy Adkins
Key games: Biddeford
Outlook: Taylor is looking forward to the season. “I anticipate this year will be very rewarding; we can only go up from here,” he says, nodding at the Lady Scots’ frustrating 2013. The team is young, with just four seniors, but with each passing year, Taylor sees more and improved talent, which he attributes to “the fantastic work that’s being done with our youth program.” That Biddeford game is Bonny Eagle’s first of the year, and Taylor expects it to set a tone for the team.
