Audubon Center
After a busy summer of programs and events, the Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center still has a few more special events planned for September.
• Full Moon Canoe Tour, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 7-9

Experience the sights and sounds of marsh creatures under the full moon. Watch for black-crowned night heron or snowy egret. Participants may even see a harbor seal or a muskrat playing in the water. Arrive no later than 6 p.m. Tour runs 6:30-8:30 p.m.
• Fabulous Fall Canoe Tour, Saturday, Sept. 27, 10 a.m.

This 1.5-hour program will take participants through the winding curves of the Dunstan River and provide a special opportunity to see the changes to the salt marsh as the season turns. See migrating and the beautiful autumn colors of the marsh.
Martin, Conners marry in the Caribbean
Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Martin of Scarborough are happy to announce the marriage of their daughter, Mollie, to Nathan Conners. Nathan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Conners of Ripley. Mollie and Nate were married on Feb. 27 on the beaches of Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean.
Mollie’s two sisters, Brooke Woodbury and Kelcie Martin, were her honor attendants. Nate’s attendants were his close friends, Jeff Woodbury and Eric Babcock. The couple’s friend, Morgan Cramer, assisted in officiating the ceremony.
Mollie is a graduate of Scarborough High School, Clemson University, and Southern Maine Community College. She is employed at Maine Medical Center. Nate graduated from Dexter High School and the University of Southern Maine. He is employed at Casco Bay Ford.

Maine Crafts Guild holds show
The Maine Crafts Guild will hold its annual fall show in Scarborough on Saturday, Sept. 13, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The show takes place at Camp Ketcha, located at 336 Black Point Road. See 40 of Maine’s finest artisans who will be displaying heirloom quality crafts. Admission is $6 for adults. Children under 18 are free.

Pizza and football
Starting this week, Portland Pie in Scarborough will donate 10 percent of its sales from a special coupon to the football team at Scarborough High School. The fundraising drive runs through Sept. 30 and applies to all dine in, delivery and take out orders. Only one coupon allowed per order. See the football team’s Facebook page to download the coupon.
Grandparents Day at library
Celebrate Grandparents Day at the South Portland Public Library on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. The event includes a release of the library’s newly hatched monarch butterflies, a butterfly parade, story time and crafts. Although this day is dedicated to grandparents, all are welcome to this program, which is free and open to the public. Call 767-7660 for more information.
Applicants sought for arts committee
The city of South Portland recently established an Arts & Historic Preservation Committee, the purpose of which is to assist the City Council in preserving the historical and architectural integrity of South Portland, fostering beautification of public areas, and promoting the educational, cultural, economic and aesthetic value of the city.
Seven members of the public are needed to fill out the nine-member committee, which will serve as an advisory board to the City Council and the Planning Board. Members of the Arts & Historic Preservation Committee shall be selected upon the basis of their interest in art, historic preservation and familiarity with the city of South Portland. Library to hold crafting series
This fall, the South Portland Public Library is introducing a new program adult crafting program, entitled “Artsy Afternoons.” This series of two-hour craft sessions requires no experience and no materials.
From sea glass art to holiday card making, the projects in this series will provide attendees with opportunities to explore, learn and enjoy craft making. The kickoff event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 1-3 p.m. at the main library.
At this session, participants will learn techniques to make wire- wrapped, sea glass jewelry and decorative votives. There will be plenty of sea glass and other materials available to use, but participants may also bring their own sea glass collection.

Peoples UMC celebrates 175th
On Sunday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m., the Peoples United Methodist Church in South Portland will celebrate its 175th anniversary with a special outdoor worship service at its 310 Broadway location.
Other special events include a Memorial Service of Light near the bathhouse at Willard Beach at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, and a Heritage Days Fair on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
