At 9:20 p.m. Friday, Windham police along with Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Route 302 just east of the rotary. Initial reports were that people were trapped in a vehicle that was on fire.
Upon arrival officers found all occupants out of the vehicles and complaining of minor injuries.
A white 2000 Hyundai Elantra operated by Laura Tompkins of Windham was traveling eastbound, crossed the center line and struck a gray 2004 Ford Freestyle van operated by Joseph Michel of Westbrook. Both operators reported minor injuries, and both vehicles sustained significant damage.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors, police say. Route 302 was closed for about an hour as crews worked to clear the vehicles from the roadway.
