WISCASSET/TOPSHAM — David R. Furbish, 88, of Wiscasset and Topsham, died Aug. 1, 2014, at Togus. He was born on Oct. 4, 1925, in Topsham, ME, the son of Melvin C. and Bertha M. Wilson Furbish.

As Staff Sergeant in the Army during WWII, he served as a drill instructor in Georgia. He was a mason. Through his journey he proceeded to become a 32nd degree mason. He worked for many years at the Pejepscot Paper mill as a papermaker.

A lifelong hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed all outdoor activities and loved wildlife of all types. He was an accomplished carpenter and “fixer” of anything. He enjoyed old clocks and had many he maintained, repaired and collected. He had eclectic talents that included writing poetry, embroidery, sketching, building and tinkering.

He was predeceased by his wife, Anita Nelson Furbish; brother, Melvin Gerard (Bud) Furbish, and his parents. He is survived by his sister, Ruth M. Vogel, daughter Penelope “Penny” Ebberts, granddaughter Jennifer K. Ebberts, great-grandchildren Kelsea A. Ebberts and Zachary D. Thiboutot. Also by his nephews Randall Furbish and Eric Vogel and many grand-nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
