PHIPPSBURG

Phippsburg police on Thursday arrested a man wanted in Virginia.

Police Chief John Skroski said he took a call last week indicating there may be a fugitive working at North Creek Farm on Sebasco Road and Thursday contacted Virginia authorities who confirmed there was an extraditable warrant out of the Northumberland County Sheriff ’s Department in Heathsville, Va. The warrant was for a felony embezzlement charge, issued April 26, 2013, and extraditable for all states east of the Mississippi and Louisiana.

Arrested was Michael S. Wormald, 54, who once lived in Londonderry, N.H., and has likely moved around, but has lived at North Creek Farm for several months, said Skroski.

Officer Erick Halpin dressed in plain clothes and went into North Creek Farm at around noon while Skroski hid in the pickup truck cab outside. Halpin ordered a BLT and spotted a man stocking shelves that matched the description. He then went and got Skroski who confronted Wormald, who admitted who he was and had a mole on his face matching pictures, Skroski said.

Skroski arrested Wormald and Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s deputy Mark Anderson assisted with the arrest, holding Wormald while Phippsburg police got the cruiser.

Skroski said Thursday that Wormald was going to Two Bridges Regional Jail and likely would be arraigned as a fugitive from justice at some point and be extradited back to Virginia.
