SACO — A Scarborough woman was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland after her van collided with a tow truck in Saco on Monday afternoon.

Deputy Police Chief Jeffrey Holland said Bronwyn Hoplight-Powers, 24, of Jamestown Circle in Scarborough suffered “serious internal injuries” when her 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan hit a towing and auto repair wrecker driven by Wayne E. Trunk Jr., 33, of Buxton.

Hoplight-Powers was listed in critical condition, said a spokeswoman for the hospital.

The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 1 and Spring Hill Road. Witnesses said the van was turning left when it was hit by the truck, which was southbound. Trunk suffered a minor injury to his right side and was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The accident remains under investigation.
