I am a taxpaying resident of Westbrook and I believe Mayor Hilton is choosing a reckless path in ignoring Gov. LePage’s plan to bring Maine into compliance with federal law banning aid to illegal aliens.

It is against federal law for a state to give financial aid to illegal aliens “unless it has a statute that qualifies people irrespective of immigration status.” Maine does not have such a statute.

Mayor Hilton said, “It is just wrong, “ referring to the governor’s recent announcement of prohibiting aliens from receiving state support.

Well, Mayor Hilton, I believe it is just wrong for you to expect the taxpayers, the elderly and the truly needy citizens of Westbrook to support your administration’s giving our tax money away.

I believe your concern is misplaced.
