The Planning Board will consider the requested developmental subdivision and site plan approval submitted by Kennebec Landing LLC to construct 15 apartments in the former hospital building at 9 Park St.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. tonight in council chambers of City Hall.

Zoning allows for up to 30 units in the Midcoast Center for Higher Education. Owner Bob Smith of Kennebec Landing decided to construct apartments in the building after he began losing commercial tenants once purchasing the property from the city in May 2013 for $799,000 and has been unsuccessful drawing new commercial tenants. He still envisions a mixed use in the building of residential and commercial.

The application proposed 15 apartments, the first phase of a total of 30 units, which would involve renovation of portions of the former two-story hospital and will utilize existing infrastructure as proposed.

The Planning Board has also received a request for site plan approval at 1494 Washington St. Applicants David Nichols and Carolyn Aberg seek the approval for a dwelling unit on the second floor of a new garage.

A third site plan review is scheduled so the Planning Board can consider a request by Arnold and Cheryl Young to move a nonconforming garage at 54 Granite St. from the rear to the front of the property. The garage, a shell building, would attach to the house. An existing garage will be removed, replaced with lawn or a green area.
