Windham Historical Society is open from around 9 a.m. to noon on Thursdays during the summer. Appointments can also be made at other times. Call 892-1433 or stop by the Society museum at 234 Windham Center Road.
Summer Events
Windham Public Library has six passes, which are available in the Children’s Room, thanks to the Friends of the Library. Take a trip back in time, visit a state park, explore a museum, enjoy swimming and picnicking at a great local park, see wildlife up close or gaze at the night sky in a dome by using a pass to get a great deal. Senior Center
Lakes Region Senior Center is at White Rock Grange, 33 Wilson Road (off Route 237), Gorham, Maine is open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Activities include games, crafts, bingo and exercise programs. Call 892-0298 for more information.
On Monday, July 14, at 11:30 a.m., watch the Senior Performers with “Casey at the Bat.” A light lunch will be served, followed by this production, then a delicious ice cream sundae social to celebrate the July birthdays. All this for a donation of $5 to support LRSC.
On Wednesday, July 30, at 10 a.m., Physical Therapy and Seniors will be presented by Michael Smith from Village Physical Therapy in Gorham. Starting at 9 a.m., a free blood pressure clinic will be available for anyone interested. All Lakes Region senior citizens welcome to drop in and visit.
Veterans Service Officer
VSO Jerry Smith is available from 9 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, July 16, and every second and fourth Wednesday morning at the Windham Veterans Center in North Windham. If you’re a veteran or a veteran’s dependent, and have questions about benefits, stop in and find out more. You do not need an appointment.
Book Group
The Book Group for adults meets at the Windham Public Library on Tuesday, July 22, at 6:15 p.m. All are welcome to attend, whether a patron of the library or not. Contact the facilitator, Barbara, if you have questions or need suggestions. Selection this month – share whatever you are currently reading. Call 892-1908 for more information. The library opens at 9:30 a.m. and is open until 8 p.m. on Monday, 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and until 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
American Legion Auxiliary Installation
On Sunday, July 13, at 1 p.m., installation of the charter members and officers of Windham’s first American Legion Auxiliary will be held at the Windham Veterans Center, Memorial Drive, North Windham. This will be coordinated in a ceremony by the Auxiliary, Department of Maine. The public is cordially invited to attend and support this historic event.
Spaghetti Dinner
On Sunday, July 20, Windham Field-Allen American Legion Post 148 will hold a spaghetti dinner at the Windham Veterans Center 4:30-6 p.m. $8 per person, under age 8 free. Advance tickets available. Call 892-1306 or 310-0390. Menu includes spaghetti and a variety of sauces, garlic bread, salads, desserts, beverages.
Concert to Benefit Special Olympics
On Saturday, July 26, at 7 p.m., two of the Lakes Region’s favorite singers, Kelly Caufield and Matthew Small will come back together to perform a concert of “Broadway & Beyond” at the North Windham Union Church. Kelly and Matthew performed a similar concert here last summer, along with one of their best friends, Emily Cain. This year, they will be accompanied again by Laura Artesani, a very talented pianist and associate professor of music at the University of Maine. Tickets will be sold at the door and are $12 for adults and $10 for students, children, and seniors. The box office opens at 6:15 and the doors will open at 6:30. The North Windham Union Church is located at 723 Roosevelt Trail in Windham, and is air-conditioned for your comfort. For more information, call 892-7149 or email MWAMconcerts@gmail.com. The Broadway & Beyond performers have once again decided to support Special Olympics Maine with the proceeds from this concert.
Got Yard Sale Stuff?
The Windham High School class of 2015 has set a date of July 26 to hold their first fund-raiser for Project Graduation. While you are doing summer cleaning, think about this worthy project and start saving items you can donate – No clothes, mattresses, or TVs please. Drop off your items July 25 from 5-7 p.m. at North Windham Union Church. Many thanks in advance for your support! We will remind you of the actual sale (8 a.m.-2 p.m. on July 26 at the church) but mark your calendars now.
