Free gazebo concert
The Common Ground Band will entertain in a free concert 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, at the gazebo on the lawn at Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St.
The concert is part of a summer concert series sponsored by Gorham Recreation Department. Parking is along South Street or in the municipal lot.
Founders festival taking shape
Gorham Founders Festival is set for Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26, at the field adjacent to Narragansett School on Main Street.
Festival features include food booths, amusement rides, fireworks and entertainment. Motor Booty Affair on Friday night is a highlight and on July 26 Grammy nominee Judy Pancoast, children’s singer and songwriter, will perform.
The festival this year commemorates the 250th anniversary of the incorporation of the town in 1764. A reception for descendents of the town’s founding families will open the festival 5:30-7 p.m. on July 25. Darryl Wright, festival director, told the Town Council last week that the festival this year celebrates the Hamblen family.
“We have a lot of sponsors we didn’t have in the past,” Wright said. “We have some great support.”
U.S. taxpayer debt
The Bureau of the Fiscal Service reported on July 2 that the U.S. public debt was $17,609,721,841,195.62.
Concert goers gather on the lawn at Gorham Municipal Center gazebo on July 1 to hear the Casco Bay Concert Band kick off the town’s free concert season. The summer series on Tuesdays continues through Aug. 12.
