Bath is celebrating Fourth of July with its weekend-long Heritage Days celebration, but it’s not the only local community marking America’s Independence Day.
Bowdoinham had its fireworks display last weekend, but the first rocket’s red glare of the weekend will take place tonight in Phippsburg, which will see them go off at 9 p.m. They will take place at Sebasco Harbor Resort, behind the tennis courts overlooking the point. Parking will be available at Small Point Church (1754 Main Road in Small Point) with a shuttle provided to and from the fireworks. The bus will run every 15-20 minutes from 7-9 p.m. and then following the fireworks for one hour.
In Harpswell, fireworks also are planned for tonight, set for 10 p.m. at Cook’s Lobster House point located at 86 Garrison Cove Road. In case of rain, fireworks will take place at 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 6.
The theme of the Bath’s Independence Day Parade Friday, which starts earlier this year at 10:30 a.m., is “Back to the Future — A Red, White and Blue Tribute to Main Street, USA,” with the pre-show beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Freeport’s July 4th events will kick off with a blueberry pancake and sausage breakfast at St. Jude Hall, on the corner of Main and School streets. For more information, call 847-6890.
Also taking place Friday is a 10K road race hosted by L.L. Bean, which starts at 7:30 a.m., followed by a fun run at 9:15 a.m. At 10 a.m. a parade will proceed down Main Street from Kendall Lane south to Holbrook Street. A concert in the park hosted by L.L. Bean will be begin at 7:30 p.m., featuring Toad the Wet Sprocket performing at Discovery Park. For more information call 877-755-2326.
Freeport also will have a fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. in town.
In Wiscasset, a parade at 10 a.m. launches the town’s July 4th events schedule, followed by an 11 a.m. veterans’ memorial flag salute and flag raising at the waterfront. After the flag raising, the Wiscasset Yacht Club will sponsor several Independance Day events. At 8 p.m. the parade winners will be announced, with live music provided by the Dyer Neck Gang. Fireworks are schedule for 9 p.m., off Route 27 by Wiscasset High School.
There will be fireworks in South Harpswell at 9:15 p.m. Friday. People can often see the fireworks from Mitchell Field or the water.
The final bit of celebrating will take place in Woolwich on Sunday, July 6, with fireworks set for 9:15 p.m., at the Reed & Reed Inc. barge, located at 11 Ferry Road. It will be the wrap-up to the four-day Heritage Days celebration.
