Each year the Alzheimer’s Association sponsors a walk to raise awareness and money needed to fund research and support to the millions impacted by this disease. In Maine alone, there are more than 37,000 people living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia. Nationwide that number has topped 5 million.
But there is good news. The research is very encouraging and by continuing to fund it, we can reach the goal of preventing and effectively treating Alzheimer’s by 2025.
Last year the walk held in Brunswick raised over $49,000. This year the walk for Mid-Coast Maine will again be held in Brunswick on September 20th. It’s fun, it’s easy and it really does HELP. For more information on how to join us on September 20th or to find out what other opportunities are available to support the effort, contact Ross Endres at rendres@alz.org or register to walk online at alz.org/walk/maine.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
