STANDISH – Schoolhouse Arts Center will present “Fiddler on the Roof,” a musical theatre tradition, touching audiences around the world with its warmth, humor, and honesty, from July 3-27.
The story is set in the small village of Anatevka where Tevye, a poor Jewish dairyman, and his wife are trying to raise five daughters at a time of great social change and anti-Semitism in Czarist Russia. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill in them a love of their traditions. The story is rich with historical and ethnic detail, and its universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, making audiences laugh and cry with joy and sadness.
Beloved songs from the musical include “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker.” A must see for everyone in the family!
