Andrew Mason’s announcement in the June 24th edition of the Times Record that he will not seek a second term in the Maine House of Representatives is a cause for sadness to all the citizens of District 54. Andrew has served Topsham with the type of bipartisanship and concern for the people of his district that all of Maine should expect from their representative. As Topsham Democrats, we certainly understand his decision and wish him the best.
We are fortunate to have a highly qualified candidate seeking the Democratic nomination for the District 54 seat — Denise Tepler. Denise has been actively involved in the Topsham community for many years. Denise will bring the same commitment to the work in Augusta as she has for the Town of Topsham. Nominations will be accepted from the floor at the nominating caucus and all registered Topsham Democrats are invited to join us on July 8th at 6:30 PM at the William- Cone Elementary School, 19 Pine Street in Topsham.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
