Maine Connections Academy, a full- time, tuition-free virtual public charter school for students in grades 7– 12 across Maine, will host an information session Wednesday for families interested in learning more about how virtual schools works and if is the right fit for their students.

The virtual charter school will open this September and is now enrolling students for the 2014-15 school year.

The information session is from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hampton Inn, located at 140 Commercial St. in Bath.

Families will have the opportunity to meet with a representative of the school, explore the program and curriculum, and learn more about the enrollment process. Families unable to attend an inperson session are invited to attend a real-time online session.

“MCA will combine certified teachers, an awardwinning curriculum, technology tools, engaging electives, and social experiences to create a supportive and successful online learning program for families and students who want an individualized approach to education,” stated an MCA press release. “As a public charter school, there are no fees or tuition to attend the school and all students are required to take the same state assessments as traditional Maine students. Learning from home, MCA students will work closely with certified teachers using detailed daily lesson plans that can be personalized to meet individual student needs. A parent, or another adult ‘learning coach,’ will monitor progress in the home.”
