BANGOR — Wiscasset High School’s remarkable run to its first state baseball championship ended Saturday as Bangor Christian won its third straight Class D title, 5-4, in eight innings.
Cody Collins singled sharply up the middle with no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning. Wiscasset Coach Mike Bowles had his infielders and outfielders drawn in to prevent the run but it did not no good.
Wiscasset came into the game with a 10-9 record and struggled to field a lineup for nearly three weeks during the season. At one point, the roster was down to nine players. Eleven were in uniform for Saturday’s final at Mansfield Stadium.
