Marsh tours set

This month the Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center, on Pine Point Road, is offering full moon canoe tours and more.

• Full Moon Canoe Tour

Thursday and Friday, June 12 and 13, 8 p.m.

The cost is $11 for members and $13 for non-members. Experience the sights and sounds of marsh creatures under the full moon. Watch for black-crowned night heron along the bank or snowy egret flying back to a nearby island for the evening. Sightings of harbor seals or muskrats playing in the water are also possible. Attendees should arrive no later than 7:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required by calling 207-883-5100.

• Family Nature Walk: Mummichogs and Marsh Muck

Wednesday, June 18, 10:30 a.m.

The cost is $5 for members and $7 for non-members. Explore the marsh for plants and animals through discovery-oriented, fun-filled activities that use all five senses. Participants will touch the mummichug, look for the many migrating and resident birds, and look through algae to discover the minute creatures living there. Fire department holds open house

The Scarborough Fire Department will hold an open house at its Black Point station on Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will showcase the newest addition to the fire truck fleet as Ladder 2 goes into service protecting the community. Public education materials, demonstrations, station and apparatus tours, free smoke detectors, and refreshments will also be available. Call 883-4542 for more information.

On Thursday, June 19, at 6:30 p.m., the Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth will host a concert by The Tangents, a three-piece band with many catchy originals. The concert is free and open to the public. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and picnic dinner. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the library’s Community Room. The Portland Public Library is showcasing its new mobile library. Sign up for a card with the Portland Public Library and check out items of interest from the bookmobile.

• Summer Reading Program kick-off is Wednesday, June 18, 6 p.m.

Join magician and illusionist Norman Ng for a family-centered show. This year’s reading program will include a variety of reading games and fun events sure to keep kids engaged.

‘Grey Gardens’ on stage at Mad Horse

“Grey Gardens” the musical is now playing at the Mad Horse Theater in South Portland. Show times are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m., through June 22. Order tickets at www.madhorse.com or 747-4148.

The show is based on the 1975 documentary of the same title, which follows the decline of socialites Edith Bouvier Beal and her daughter, Edie, the aunt and cousin of former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. Grey Gardens is the name of the Bouvier family’s East Hampton estate.
