A Limerick man was flown by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center on Wednesday night after his sports utility vehicle went off Route 125 and struck a tree.
The driver and sole occupant, Jimmy Herring, 37, of Limerick, was driving a Kia Sorento west on Route 125 just beyond the Route 201 intersection. Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Thibeault said while on scene Wednesday it appears the vehicle went off the side of the road, through a guardrail and hit a tree head-on, which likely spun the SUV around. It ended up on its side in a small gully.
Bowdoin Fire Department responded shortly after 8 p.m. along with Lisbon EMS, which transported Herring to nearby Bowdoin Central School where the Bowdoinham Fire Department set up a landing zone. From there he was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to CMMC in Lewiston. Herring sustained injuries and was conscious but not coherent following the crash, Thibeault said.
The crash remains under investigation. Herring was in fair condition this morning according to a hospital spokesperson.
