My name is Michael Wood. I reside in Scarborough and will be voting to re-elect Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce at the June 10 Democratic primary election.

Sheriff Joyce has more than 28 years of experience at the sheriff’s office, serving as chief deputy for several years before being elected sheriff in 2010. Sheriff Joyce’s credentials go beyond his extensive and impressive practical experience as well. Sheriff Joyce holds a master’s degree in business administration, an associate’s degree in criminal justice, FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development and FBI National Academy certification.

As important experience and education is, Sheriff Joyce truly deserves your consideration when taking time to look at his accomplishments of late. Overseeing a $20 million budget, Sheriff Joyce has utilized grants to fund law enforcement positions and develop a contract deputy position. Sheriff Joyce has saved Cumberland County communities, churches and nonprofit organizations nearly a half-million dollars. In 2011, Sheriff Joyce initiated a medical co-pay program at the jail, saving approximately $8,000 per month in the medications budget. Saving money for the its communities yet maintaining law enforcement effectiveness is a common theme of Sheriff Joyce

. Sheriff Joyce has embraced reaching out to the communities he serves with Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) and Senior Neighborhood Awareness Program for traffic direction and control, assistance with Fatal Experience program and crime prevention presentations. Partly as a result of these and other initiatives, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s department enjoys a fugitive file clearance rate of 95 percent.

Join me in re-electing Sheriff Kevin Joyce.
