TOPSHAM
The driver and passenger of a motorcycle that crashed on Route 24 late Monday afternoon were taken to a Lewiston hospital with what police say were minor injuries.
The crash was reported at 5:05 p.m. in the area of 899 Middlesex Road (Route 24) which is near the Bowdoinham town line. Topsham Police Sgt. Mark Gilliam said Michelle Mason, 45, was backing out of her driveway and didn’t see the motorcycle coming. The driver of the 2000 Harley Davidson, 46-yearold Phil S. Galipeau of Lisbon, tried to avoid the car trying to slow the bike down, locked up the brakes and laid the bike down to avoid contact with the car, Gilliam said.
Both Galipeau and a passenger, 35-year-old Renee Plourde of Lisbon, were taken to Central Maine Medical Center with what Gilliam said appeared to be minor injuries. The two were not wearing helmets. The motorcycle sustained very little damage and was towed from the scene.
Topsham Fire and Rescue responded along with Topsham police and a Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s deputy assisted with traffic, which was stopped for several minutes after the crash.
No charges had been issued Monday. According to CMMC this morning, both Galipeau and Plourde had were treated and released.
