BUXTON – The third suspect Buxton police were seeking in connection with a home robbery and assault was taken into custody early this week following last week’s arrest of two other suspects.

Buxton Police Chief Michael Grovo said York County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael C. Crockett, 30, of Buxton, on May 18 in Cornish.

“He voluntarily turned himself in,” Grovo said.

Crockett came out of the woods and surrendered after the sheriff’s department promised him snacks.

After receiving a call that a woman had been attacked in her home, Buxton police responded at 9:15 p.m. on April 11 to 32 Callahan Road. Police reports said the woman, who had interrupted a burglary in progress, had been assaulted, tied up and left on the floor.

Police said at the time that three suspects – two men and a woman – left with an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim was treated and transported to Mercy Hospital.

Buxton police on May 15 arrested one suspect, Stacy Day, 35, of Buxton, at 60 Old Thompson Road.

Grovo said another suspect, Gregory Hoar, 29, of Gorham, also was arrested by Gorham police on May 15. Buxton police had a warrant for Crockett’s arrest.

York County Sheriff Maurice Ouellette on Wednesday said Crockett surrendered after a stay in the woods about a mile and half from Ouellete’s residence. Ouellette said Crockett had a cell phone and called his attorney, who contacted Chief Deputy William King about Crockett surrendering.

Ouellete said Crockett’s surrender terms included Mountain Dew, chocolate milk and pizza, which the Sherriff’s Department agreed to. Ouellette said Crockett, who had been attacked by a dozen ticks, came out with his hands up.

“He was all bitten up,” Ouellette said.

According to Buxton police, the three suspects each were arrested on charges of class A robbery and class B aggravated assault.

A spokesman at York County Jail in Alfred on Tuesday said Day and Hoar are each being held on $10,000 cash bail and Crockett was released Tuesday on $5,000 surety bail.

Grovo said the case remains under active investigation.
