Bible study group begins March 13

The Rev. Ray St. Pierre invites the community of Pownal and the surrounding areas to join him and the North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road, on a journey starting March 13, entitled, “Celebration of Discipline,” the path to spiritual growth by Richard Foster.

This will be a 12- to 16-week Bible study where the spiritual disciplines will be divided into three categories: inward, outward and corporate. With the guidance of Foster’s book, participants will explore the specific Biblical passages that will bring them closer to one another and closer to God. All are welcomed starting March 13th from 6:30-8 p.m., and every Thursday evening until finished.

For more information, call the church at 688-4839 (Tuesdays 8 a.m.-4 p.m.) or St. Pierre at 837-0682.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is in the process of amending the flood maps on which many of the town’s building setbacks and regulations are based upon.

Homeowners are urged to come into the Town Office during business hours and take a look at the proposed maps to see if any changes are proposed that might affect their property. There will be forms available soon for those who believe changes being proposed are incorrect and want to appeal those changes. The proposed maps for Pownal are on display in the voting room on the first floor of Mallett Hall.

Returnables sought to support fire-rescue

The Pownal Fire Co. works to support the Pownal Fire & Rescue Department. In addition to providing food during fires and trainings, the organization purchases work uniforms and equipment for the town’s emergency personnel. The money the fire company is able to donate toward these items helps to keep the fire department’s expenses down. The organization seeks donations of returnable bottles and cans to help fund its work. The Pownal Fire Co. is independent from the town of Pownal and the Pownal Fire and Rescue Department. The bottle building is located behind the town hall.

It is open to any men who want to come. They do not have to be affiliated with the church. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.
