The finalists for the Travis Roy Award, given annually to the top Class A senior boys hockey player in the state, were announced on Monday, and both Biddeford’s Nik Lemieux and Thornton Academy’s Alex Fallon made the final cut.

Joining Lemieux and Fallon as finalists are Bangor’s Justin Courtney and Lewiston’s Kyle Lemelin.

Lemieux was a four-year starter for the Tigers, a two-time captain, and a three-time All-State selection. He scored 21 goals and collected 22 assists while centering a line with two freshmen.

“He’s always scored big goals for us, even as a sophomore and as a junior,” Biddeford head coach Rich Reissfelder said. “You work hard, and good things come to you. Sometimes the puck finds you when you’re doing the right things on the ice.”

Reissfelder also said that Lemieux became an even faster player this season, calling him one of the fastest in the state, and that his breakaways usually meant good things for the Tigers.

Fallon also oozes skill on the ice, as Thornton head coach Jamie Gagnon said that he “is a threat to score every time he touches the puck.”

Like Lemieux, Fallon was a four-year varsity player for the Trojans, and was a captain this season as well as an assistant captain as a junior.

“He’s a leader in the locker room. He’s an assistant coach for us. He’s a leader on the ice,” said Gagnon. “The ultimate measure of a player is how good you can make everybody else around you, and Alex has certainly done that, not just this year, but throughout his career.”

Fallon tallied a team-leading 16 goals and 16 assists for a Thornton team that made it to the Western Maine Class A semifinals.

Both Lemieux and Fallon are honors students who are actively involved in community nonprofits, facts that are taken into consideration by the Maine Class A Coaches Association in presenting the award.

The winner will be announced as part of the All-State Selection Banquet at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston on Sunday.

All four finalists will also be part of the inaugural Maine Winter Classic All-Star hockey event at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham on Saturday night. The Class Senior All-Star game will start at 6:10 p.m., with the Class A Senior All-Star game to follow at 8:10 p.m.
